The Queens of 2015
2015 is set to be an exciting year for female driven music. Florence & the Machine are due to release their long awaited, third album ‘How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful’. Wolf Alice, winners of NME’s ‘Ones to watch’ award have gained well deserved exposure. Talk of their soon to be released debut album has stirred excitement in their already loyal fan base. St Vincent’s sixth album came out earlier this year and she will be headlining Welsh Music Festival ‘Green Man’ alongside alternative favourites Hot Chip.
Three bands fronted by women with incredible wardrobes behind them. Here is how to achieve their looks on a budget, so you aren’t too jealous when you inevitably listen to them on repeat.

If you have a thing for patterns, prints and all things 70’s Florence Welch might just be your go to muse. When she first hit our ears and fashion radars in 2009, she was playing around with boyish tailoring, hats and layers. She was of course sporting her signature red hair which was just as mussed up as her eyeliner. In recent years she has moved on to luxurious suits and gowns in every shade and fabric imaginable. She keeps her day to day look dramatic with signature coats and endless jewellery.

Topshop have a whole host of suits and co-ords for special occasions. They may not be the cheapest option but you can mix the jacket or trousers with other pieces and you’ll be wearing it forever. Plus they offer a suave edge that an LBD can’t. 70’s style printed shirts can be dressed up or down. Vintage shops are usually full of these and if you’re not into trawling through piles of old clothes, you can shop online at places like Cow, Rokit and Beyond Retro. The high street will be full of paisley and boho prints right before festival season so it’s a good time to stock up.

Ellie Rowsell, lead singer of Wolf Alice will make you wish your big sister hadn’t thrown out all those clothes you laughed at her for wearing during her school days. The 90’s revival came back in full force last year and Ellie rocks the look without looking like she’s trying too hard. On stage she pairs simple dresses and skirts with boots to toughen the look up. She has fun with her effortlessly styled hair, by adding plaits wherever she pleases.

Off stage she sports her seemingly endless collection of oversized, vintage jackets with an array of scarves and sunglasses. An easy formula for her look is a simple black top paired with a girly, A-line skirt. Keep your hair and makeup low key and add chunky boots to steer the look away from being too polished. Annie Clark, otherwise known as St Vincent has a look that is grown up but far from boring. She pairs simple, clean cut pieces with something unusual (a bright blue hat for example). It’s like she fell into Zara, then got Isabella Blow to choose her accessories. For this look you just need a capsule wardrobe of a few simple dresses in block colours and stand out accessories that can be mixed and matched to your heart’s content.

She is blessed with a face that suits practically any hair colour and is an example of why curly hair should be embraced, not tamed. I have never been brave enough to play around with coloured eye shadow but she seriously tempts me at times. She makes blue eye shadow look cool and a classic, peachy lip fresh and new.
