Valentine’s day is quickly approaching, and for those of us
who haven't yet been snatched up by Mr Right it's probably one we’re
anticipating with dread rather than excitement. But I say let’s say goodbye to
the 14th of February blues, let’s forget the “I’m forever going
to be alone with 30 cats” woes, and lets embrace our single independence in all
its glory. Rather than being a hermit in your house all day and watching twenty episodes of a series you've already watched three times, grab your girlfriends, (the ones that haven’t gone to the
dark side of boyfriendville), and do your own thing. Here are my top 4 singleton
Valentine’s Day ideas.
1.
Go out
For those of you who love nothing more than
a night out, you aren’t going to short of the opportunity on the 14th.
Plug have got a "propalacoal Valentines Day Special" , which involves live
sets from local bands, as well as their usual night out, and Leadmil have
Saturday Sonic. If you’re on the lookout for a potential new love interest, Valentine’s
Day night isn’t going to be short of a supply of single men.
2.
Have a girly sleepover
Why not get all your single girlfriends
round and have a super cheesy sleepover.
This should involve cocktails, pizza, popcorn and tons of ice cream. Make
sure you’ve got at least five chick flicks at the ready, (preferably nothing
too loveydovey). Just remember to be on the
lookout for that one friend who has one too
many cosmos and attempts to call her ex for a friendly valentine’s Day chat.
3.
50 Shades Of Grey
I couldn’t possibly make any type of Valentine
’s Day article without mentioning the much anticipated 50 Shades Of Grey film. We’ve
all read it, (if you haven’t then you definitely should), and though we may
have denied it, we all loved it. I doubt there is going to be many boyfriends
willing to take their girls to swoon over the notorious Mr Grey, but for those
of us whose boyfriends are indeed our girlfriends, I’m pretty sure there isn’t going
to be a moments hesitation from them to join you. The cinemas are going to be
packed so I suggest booking in advance or arriving super early.
4.
Date night without a date
If you want to opt for a more sophisticated
valentine’s Day, why not hold a dinner party for you and your closest girl (and
boy) mates. Cook something simple but tasty, get a couple of nibbles in and ask
everyone to bring a bottle. And if you don’t want the night to end why not go
out for some cocktails after!
I hope I've taken the fear out of the 14th
of Feb for some of you. There's no need to sit in crying over a tub of Ben and Jerry’s. I personally
think Valentine’s Day can be just as, if not more enjoyable for the singletons. You
can make it whatever you want it to be.
